Programs

We have three programs to help women and girls who have recently undergone surgical repair for obstetric fistulas return to school or receive vocational training skills.

Scholarship Fund

Our scholarship program provides funds for young fistula patients to return to primary or secondary school. Donations help these children, who were previously outcasts, get an education and reconnect with others their age. Our scholarship program currently funds girls in 6th through 11th grade so they can attend boarding school in Eldoret, Kenya. We are committed to sponsoring them through their graduation.

Stepping Forward Program

Our stepping forward program helps fistula survivors 'step forward' in their community through vocational training. The goal of this extensive program is to help these women gain marketable skills so they can become financially stable or even financial independent in the future. Women leave their vocational training with expanded skills sets and opportunities to regain a normal lives in their community.

Microloan Program

Our final program directly supplements the "Stepping Forward" vocational training. After women successfully complete our second program, we offer them microloans, or small loans typically given to impoverished borrowers with little viable credit. Ex-fistula victims who recieve our microloans are encouraged to start saving and strive for financial stability. We leave them with resources to return back to village work or find employment in established cities.

Where We Work

We operate in Kenya, primarily in the region around the city of Eldoret. All of the women in our program have been operated on by Dr. Mayeba at the Moi Referral Hospital and the GYNOCARE Fistula Center.
